Summer Update – May 19, 2020
Dear Keystone South Families and Campers,
I hope this letter finds each of your families healthy and safe. I know that this time has been incredibly challenging on us all, and I wanted to thank so many of you for reaching out to share kind words and wishful thoughts for the success of our camp program for Summer 2020. We are so very thankful for the wonderful community that we have developed over the past four summers.
Unfortunately, with a heavy heart, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Keystone South’s programs this summer. When looking at released safety guidelines and recommendations, it became apparent how many questions still remained unanswered – the uncertainty of our transportation and aquatics programs, the inability to assemble as a whole camp, how to promote social distancing amongst campers and staff while still remaining “connected”, how to apply sunscreen from six feet away, the list goes on and on.
Even with all of the ways in which we looked to modify camp, we ultimately could not find a way to safely operate this summer at a level to meet both our standards and your standards. When you send your child to Keystone South you are entrusting me, our Leadership Team, and our counselors to take care of your camper. Wellness is the ultimate responsibility for a camp director, and it is one I’ve never taken lightly.
Camp is the opposite of distanced, it’s a hands-on, front line effort to create positive and lasting memories for kids. With the closing of camp this summer, I am most disappointed for all of our campers. We know so many of them look forward to Keystone all school year, and we love seeing their faces as they tackle new adventures and reach new goals. We love reconnecting with all of our “veteran” campers, and welcoming so many new kids into our camp culture each summer. Please let your kids know that we are thinking of each one of them, and we’re going to be getting ready for an unforgettable “Fifth” Year Anniversary in 2021.
Additionally, I am so proud of our dynamic staff, who geared up for Summer 2020 these past months without skipping a beat. I am incredibly grateful for their ongoing support and flexibility. While this was a very sad decision to make, we also know it’s the right one. From our Junior Counselors, to our Senior Counselors, and finally our Director Team, our entire staff is looking forward to making 2021 our best summer yet!
Thank you, sincerely, for your trust, kindness, and encouragement through this whole process.
I hope each of your families stays safe and healthy. As always, feel free to reach out via email with any questions or thoughts, or even if you just want to say hi. (:
